King orders planes to fly Jordanians home

AMMAN (JT) - His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday ordered the dispatching of Royal Air Force (RAF) and Royal Jordanian ( RJ ) planes to bring home Jordanians stranded in Tripoli, Libya, amid escalating violence.

A Royal Court statement said that an RAF and an RJ aircraft will today carry Jordanians from Tripoli airport, while another military plane will head to the same town on Thursday to bring more Jordanians to safety.

Also on Tuesday, an RJ flight landed in Queen Alia International Airport carrying another batch of Jordanians from Benghazi.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mohammad Kayed told The Jordan Times yesterday that 280 citizens were expected to board the flight.

"The situation is worsening and the interruption of communications is making it more difficult for the ministry and RJ to arrange more flights, but we will continue our efforts to bring back our fellow citizens," Kayed said.

Meanwhile, RJ CEO Hussein Dabbas said the airline will also bring home any Jordanian who can make it to Egyptian airports.
