Health Ministry lines up special programs to mark king's return

By By MD RASOOLDEEN RIYADH: The Ministry of Health has lined up a series of programs all over the Kingdom to celebrate the return of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah to the Kingdom today.

"The program, called 'Salamat,' will be formally launched by Health Minister Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah on Thursday at the headquarters of the ministry, where he will inaugurate a new website for the impending celebrations," ministry spokesman Dr. Khaled Al-Mirghalani told Arab News on Tuesday.

The ministry, he said, would keep all its hospitals and clinics open to the public from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. for three consecutive days from King Abdullah's date of arrival.

"The idea is to enable people to meet and greet patients at hospitals in a festive atmosphere," the spokesman said, pointing out that such concessions are normally given during Eid holidays.

He said the ministry has also made arrangements for its health officials to visit malls and meet people to educate them on various health problems that are common in the country. A blood donation program will also be held in the capital on Sunday.

Health officials will conduct medical screening programs free of charge to all residents at public malls, schools, parks, supermarkets, airports, chamber of commerce offices and other pubic places. The services in these improvised stalls would include glucose tests, blood pressure tests and body mass index tests.

"Our health educators will meet people in these malls and tell them about the dangers of smoking, the importance of healthy diets and significance of physical exercises," Al-Mirghalani said.

The ministry has also requested medics and paramedics in the medical institutions to interact with patients and their relatives during the celebrations.

Health officials have also been advised to visit the homes of patients who regularly patronize government hospitals in the Kingdom.

"They will meet and greet the patients and inquire about their health," Al-Mirghalani said.

The ministry's call center will also be open for three days to answer questions of citizens about their health on a toll free number (8002494444).

"We are all happy about the king's return and we have created an opportunity to share our experiences and sentiments with one another for the greater good of the nation," the spokesman said.

The program is the brainchild of Al-Rabeeah, Al-Mirghalani said, adding that the 20 health regions in the Kingdom have been informed of this new move to enable everyone to celebrate King Abdullah's return.
