Under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jabr Al Thani, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister

Doha, Qatar, 21 February 2011: The BARWA & Qatari Diar Research Institute (BQDRI) is offering delegates and visitors to the 1st Green Building Solutions Conference & Exhibition Doha 2011 the opportunity to attend the first Qatar Sustainability Assessment System (QSAS) Associate Certified Green Professional Master Class on Friday 4th March.

QSAS is the first of its kind performance-based sustainability system, developed by the BQDRI in collaboration with the T.C. Chan Center at the University of Pennsylvania to empower developers and construction companies with the knowledge to create sustainable building projects which reduce environmental impacts and satisfy the needs of communities.

The special 3-hour QSAS workshop at the Doha Exhibition Center on Friday 4th March presents a fascinating insight about the history of sustainability, current market trends, the development, measurement and scoring criteria of QSAS, and details of how to submit projects for QSAS certification.

"Our QSAS Associate CGP Master Class gives architects, engineers, construction managers, contractors, developers, attorneys, construction manufacturers, Real Estate developers and consultants the knowledge about how green construction practices are implemented in Qatar," says BQDRI Chairman and Managing Director Dr. Youssef Al-Horr.

Beginning at 4:30 pm, a team of QSAS Certified Green Professionals from BARWA & Qatari Diar Research Institute (BQDRI) and Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC) will deliver a Master Class programme which features an overview of sustainability and the Qatar Sustainability Assessment System, followed by in-depth sessions covering the QSAS criteria before finishing with the presentation of QSAS Calculators & Toolkits. All participants will be awarded a Certificate of Attendance.

Adopted by BARWA Real Estate Company and Qatari Diar Real Estate Development Company for all their current and future projects in Qatar, QSAS differs from all imported sustainable rating systems which were designed to meet the environmental needs of regions with very different climates than the GCC.

"By developing a system that addresses sustainability goals specific to the Gulf region and which also adheres to the highest international standards, QSAS is an ideal green building solution for governments and construction companies across the Middle East to follow," adds Dr. Al Horr.

Under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jabr Al Thani, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the State of Qatar and supported by the Barwa and Qatari Diar Research Institute, Green Building Solutions 2011 brings together leading construction companies, real estate developers, engineers, architects, government ministries and industry for a 2-day Conference at the Intercontinental Hotel and a 3-day green solutions exhibition at the Doha Exhibition Center.

The fee for the one-off QSAS Master Class is QR 1,000. Pre-registration is necessary and can be completed by visiting www.bqdri.org to fill and submit an application form.
