Dow Engages with International Energy Agency for Global Clean Energy Solutions

Kuwait 21 February 2011: Dow has long been a leader in providing global energy products, processes and perspectives to revolutionize the way society thinks about energy and unlock the answers to the world's climate change challenges. Recently in Paris, Dow leveraged its energy expertise to work with the International Energy Agency (IEA) to help launch its Low Carbon Technology Platform, which will accelerate the development and deployment of clean energy technologies around the world. The IEA is an intergovernmental organization which acts as an energy policy advisor to 28 member countries.

"In the absence of comprehensive global climate progress, the IEA and its programs are becoming an increasingly important route to positively influence international policy, and we are proud to contribute our experience and expertise to their efforts on clean energy technology," said Russel Mills, global director of Energy and Climate Change Policy. "There won't be a single, easy solution in this transition to a low carbon economy. The answers go well beyond our labs or the policy maker's pen. It will require an unprecedented collaboration between policy makers and the innovation engines of the private sector."

The aim of the IEA's Low-Carbon Technology Platform is to provide a forum for global energy stakeholders, including policy makers and business leaders, to create more effective and coordinated intergovernmental energy policies among developed and emerging economies. Dow was one of only a dozen businesses invited to work with the IEA in determining its focus and goals.

"The answers to our energy future are the answers of chemistry, and Dow is investing in the development of materials, technologies and business strategies that enable a low-carbon future," said Doug May, vice president of Energy and Climate Change. "However, the transition to a low carbon economy must be global. While we continue to create innovative energy solutions, we look forward to working with the IEA to tackle intergovernmental policy challenges."
