"Tunisia's Central Bank will ensure normal operation of "Banque de Tunisie" and "Banque Zitouna"

Tunisia's Central Bank Governor ( BCT ), Mr. Mustapha Kamel Nabli said that BCT is currently striving to guarantee normal operation of " Banque de Tunisie " and "Banque Zitouna," so that both financial institutions carry on honouring their commitments and that the keep on providing all their services, in order to preserve balance of Tunisia's banking sector.

During a meeting with media held on Friday at BCT 's headquarters, Mr. Mustapha Kamel Nabli announced the appointments respectively of Mr. Habib Ben Saâd and Slaheddine Kanoun as caretaker managers of Banque de Tunisie and Banque Zitouna.

He stressed that the economy's supplying in liquid assets is proceeding under normal circumstances.

He also announced that BCT will hold, on Monday, a meeting with chairmen of Tunisian banks to look at operation of the banking sector and measures to be taken to make available to economic players the needed financial resources, and thus make sure that activities go on smoothly.

On wealth of the ousted president's entourage, BCT Governor said "that it is huge and that it could not, for the time being, be measured up, underlining that the State made the needed arrangements to freeze assets and accounts of those people.

Mr. Nabli concluded with specifying that Tunisia will pay back its debts in accordance with the agreed-on timetable.
