Ounousa.com and Berytech put Lebanon in the spotlight at the Mediterranean Economic Week
Beirut 26, December 2010--At the closure of the Mediterranean economic week in Marseille, the Lebanese start-up Ounousa.com was awarded the MedVentures 2010 award together with the incubator Berytech .
As part of the Invest in Med program financed by the European Commission, the 2010 MedVentures competition gathered innovation and entrepreneurship networks from 10 countries around the Mediterranean to target their top 100 start-ups. The awards ceremony was the final step of a process that started in April 2010, which led to the identification and the selection of the highest growth potential projects among the participating countries.
One of the largest Arabic speaking feminine communities on the web
Launched in 2008 by its two founders Wassim Kari and Elsa Aoun, Ounousa.com became a major player of the Arabic web. The start-up is leveraging its success on the strong growing feminine segment. The website enjoys a wide audience from 16 countries in the Middle East and North Africa region. As of today, Ounousa.com gathers one of the most active feminine online communities with over 250,000 fans on Facebook and 700,000 visits per month.
The success of Ounousa.com among Arab women relies on several factors: a rich content offering, social and interactive features and an editorial strategy encouraging the diversity of topics, opinions and cultures.
The startup was selected based on its economic potential, with a growth fueled by two major drivers: the booming Internet penetration in the Arab world and the fast growing market of online advertising in the Middle East. This potential is reflected by an audience increase of 300% over the last quarter, totaling more than 4 million ad impressions per month.
The ambition of the founders on the short term is to continue monetizing the website through advertisements, and to penetrate the mobile application market. On the long term, the team intends to capitalize on its large female audience to offer e-commerce services.
