UN Online Media Resource Gets New Name, Offers Enhanced Content to Journalists Worldwide
New York 9, 2010 - The UN Alliance of Civilization's Global Expert Finder will now be known simply as Global Experts, a change that reflects the resource's updated website and the launch of a new opinions and analyses syndication service. The revamped resource (www.theglobalexperts.org) will also offer enhanced content, with weekly articles on international issues and crises, while maintaining the original database of analysts.Since July, Global Experts has expanded its network of analysts based in various parts of the world to over 400. The list of news outlets using the resource has also grown, and includes CNN, Boston Globe, BBC, Wall Street Journal, Reuters, Deutsche Welle, AFP and The National (UAE), among others. In October, Global Experts launched a free op-ed syndication service for newspapers worldwide. These op-ed articles cover a range of international topics from Middle East peace to debates on religious symbols in public spaces and security issues in Europe. Since launch, the service has placed articles in a variety of publications including Hürriyet Daily News, Gulf Times, Malta Independent, Guatemala Times and more.
Another new feature on the site is Counter Point, in which two UN Global Experts provide diverging opinions on controversial topics. The most recent Counter Point presented veteran journalist and Middle East expert Abdallah Schleifer in a debate with religious scholar and author Reza Aslan on President Obama's Middle East policy.
Global Experts will continue to support the work of journalists, editors and producers with a special focus on the cross-cultural aspect of conflicts and crises. Global Experts will also continue to provide commentaries and analysis by experts on current affairs, including politics, terrorism, human rights, women's rights, globalization, religion and culture. Journalists can search for experts based on area of expertise, location and language spoken, and obtain biographical information and links to articles and interviews. Users can also sign up for media alerts on current events and unfolding crises with suggested names of experts to contact immediately.
Global Experts is supported by a network of partners, including the European Commission, the Anna Lindh Foundation, the International Center for Journalists, Search for Common Ground, the Global Forum for Media Development, as well as think tanks and a extended network of media organizations worldwide.
