DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, November 23, 2010 - An equity investment deal King & Spalding had a key role in executing was named deal of the year at the 4th annual Private Equity World Awards MENA last night during ceremonies in Dubai. King & Spalding Riyadh-based client Jadwa Investment Company received the award for its acquisition of a significant equity stake in Gulf Union Foods Company (GUFC), one of the largest producers of juices and beverages in Saudi Arabia.
Jadwa Investment
was recognized for positively contributing to the development of the MENA region's private equity industry, while demonstrating an unparalleled ability to succeed and continually set standards of excellence.

Jadwa
in January 2010 on the acquisition, which was made by the Shari'ah-compliant
Jadwa
Food and Beverage Opportunity Fund.
King & Spalding

Jadwa
in relation to the structure and formation of the fund with the Saudi Arabian Capital Market Authority. GUFC manufactures juices, nectars and flavored drinks, with its products sold in more than 20 countries across different regions, including the MENA region, Canada, the United Kingdom and the Indian subcontinent.
The
King & Spalding
legal team representing
Jadwa
on the structure, documentation, legal and Shari'ah-compliance of both the acquisition and the fund was led by partner Nabil Issa of the firm's Dubai and affiliated Riyadh offices and by Dubai-based corporate partner Wael Wahbeh. Riyadh-based counsel Mohammad Al-Ammar and New York-based associate James Stull (formerly based in Dubai) assisted with the transactions. Marc Parrott, a Dubai-based funds counsel, assisted with the related fund.
