Majan University College launches MSc programmes in Computer Science
MUSCAT -- Majan University College , in collaboration with the University of Bedfordshire, is now offering an MSc programme in Computer Science with six pathways in the areas of Information Management and Security, Mobile Computing, Computer Forensics and Security, Networking, Applied Computing & Information Technology.
The MSc programmes are unique in that they are being offered for the first time in Oman. They are designed to ensure worldwide recognition with their unique Problem Based Learning approaches and strong connections with latest technologies, generating students that are independent and enterprising problem-solvers.
"These six areas have been identified as vital for organisational focus both in the public and private sector. For example the Information Management and Security pathway equips students with the skills required by business firms, government sector, large security agencies, military and civilian agencies and IT firms. Digital forensics is a fast-developing area required by specialist forensic science agencies, intelligence services, IT security companies, chartered accountancy firms and banks," Majan University College said in a statement.
Mobile Computing will provide an overview, practice and critical evaluation of some of the technologies that are currently in common use for the design and construction of applications for mobile computing devices such as mobile phones and PDAs.
The understanding gained upon successful completion of this topic should enable students to implement mobile applications to typical commercial standards. Another service associated with mobile computing is cloud computing, or the ability to use website services from mobile computers.
A Masters in Computer Science (CS) in these highly recommended areas spans the range from theory through programming to cutting-edge development of computing solutions and offers advanced tools and features that allow graduates to adapt to new technologies and new ideas.
Theories to practical applications of IT are considered involving the ability to come up with innovative solutions and skills to deal with technological tools for protecting data privacy and more.
"In general one will master designing and developing effective ways to solve computing problems, such as storing information in databases, sending data over networks or providing new approaches to security problems, and devising new and better ways of using computers and addressing particular challenges in areas such as networking, security, database, robotics, computer vision, digital forensics, mobile and wireless communication, cloud technology, operating systems, and distributed systems. These new programmes are designed based on the competencies of future professionals with the knowledge, skills and attitudes that professionals will have to tackle problems in their fields to enhance each candidate's professional career," the statement added.
