UAE-US defence ties discussed

WASHINGTON -- The National Defence Industrial Association and the US-UAE Business Council have joined hands to hold the "US Commercial Aerospace & Defence Trade Mission to the United Arab Emirates" from October 2-7.

The trade mission will bring sixty-five representatives from over fifty US companies in the defence and aerospace sectors to the UAE to further deepen and strengthen the defence and commercial trade relationship between the two countries.

In addition to the major Original Equipment Manufacturers in the US defence sector, over forty Small and Medium Enterprises, many of which have little or no current business activities in the UAE, will participate in the mission.

The trade mission kicked off with an address by Shaikha Lubna Al Qasimi, UAE Minister of Foreign Trade, at a welcoming reception at the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi last night.

"This is a critical time for our companies abroad, as the US defence budget continues to face pressure at home."

"This trade mission will allow fifty American defence and aerospace companies to broaden their strategic trade relationships with their Emirati counterparts," said Danny Sebright, President of the U.S-UAE Business Council.

"Our goal is to foster new business ties and greater commercial trade. Furthermore, this an important time for commercial representatives of the two countries to meet and discuss the implications of the new Offsets regulations unveiled by the UAE in June," said Lt-Gen Lawrence Farrell, President and CEO of NDIA.

The mission will include briefings from public and private sector officials with expertise in the UAE's defence, military, and homeland security. Throughout the mission, these US defence companies will have the opportunity to meet with their counterparts from key defence companies in the UAE including: Emirates
Advanced Investments, International Golden Group, Mubadala, and
Tawazun.

The delegation will also meet with UAE government, military, and defence officials; including representatives from the Offset Program
Bureau.

"The National Defence Industrial Association is excited to offer this tremendous opportunity to its membership as the defence relationship ace. In addition to meetings and briefings, delegates will conduct site visits to major defence industrial zones and tour key military compounds."

The mission is certified by the Commercial Service of the US Department of Commerce and is supported by the UAE Embassy Trade and Commercial Office in Washington, DC.
