16 Foreign Auto-Making Firms Active in Iran
Sixteen foreign auto manufacturing companies are now producing cars in Iran despite tough sanctions imposed by UN and US on Iran.The latest tally shows that 16 auto making firms are working in Iran whereas Japan's Toyota and South Korea's Kia Motors auto-making car companies have already halted exports to Iran, ISNA reported.
Latest statistics show that Peugeot, Renault, Nissan, Volkswagen, Hyundai Motors, Citroen, Suzuki, Mazda, Isuzu, MAN, Scania, Volvo, Lifan and Camas are still producing cars in Iran.
The number of produced automobiles in Iran over first five months of the current Iranian year (started March 21) are enlisted below.
France's Peugeot is the largest car maker group in Iran which produced over 190,000 cars jointly with its partner Iran Khodro Industrial Group.
Also French Renault made 160,051 cars. It is now producing Tondar 90 jointly with Iran Khodro and Pars Khodro groups.
Nissan jointly with its Iranian partner Pars Khodro has produced over 4,000 cars including Maxima, Roniz and Pickup.
Volkswagen, largest European car maker, is working with Iran's Ban Khodro Company.
Hyundai Motors made 3,172 cars in Iran and despite Kia Motors it has no plan to end car production in Iran.
French Citroen produced 4,450 Xantias, Suzuki delivered 1800 cars to Iranian market while Mazda's and Isuzu's products reached 12,000 and 4,926 respectively.
But products of MAN, Scania, Volvo and Camas reached 17, 349, 181 and 447 respectively.
The UN Security Council adopted the 4th round of resolution against Iran on June 9 following Iran's refusal to halt peaceful nuclear work.
The West claims that Iran wants to produce nuclear weapon. Iran denies the allegation, saying that its nuclear activities only seek civilian purposes including power generation and medical research.
