Sharjah Transport grows in stature

SHARJAH -- Sharjah Transport has seen a drop of 18 per cent in the number of public complaints in the first half of the year. "This is basically due to the intensive training courses staff drivers go through, apart from the disciplinary guidelines set to improve customer services," said Assistant Director General of Sharjah Transport, Rahama Al Shamsi. The boom is also attributed to the more bus routes operated and vehicles deployed. "Sharjah bus routes grew to 16 and 90 new vehicles joined service by June 30," Shamsi said.

Such outstanding growth attracted more than 3,790,000 commuters in the first six months of the year. "Some 3,535,000 passengers have used Sharjah intercity buses this year," he said.

Sharjah taxis ran 112,461 more trips in the first half of this year.

Abdallah Zamzam, Senior Executive at Customer Service Centre, said the the complaints received included 555 complaints about lost items and 45 suggestions this year. Zamzam urged the public to pay attention to their belongings, cell phones and keys in particular when taking a taxi. "Passengers are advised to pay heed to the cab colour and cabbie uniform, and keep the tariff receipt; such help identify the target taxi and find the lost item as soon as possible," he said.

Ali Khalfan, an Executive with Customer Service, said Sharjah Transport spares no effort in developing its services in line with the increasing population and construction development across the emirate.
