Dubai promised and delivered: Shaikh Mohammed

"Dubai promised and delivered", said Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai while touring the Dubai World Central- Al Maktoum International Airport .

Shaikh Mohammed first toured the passenger terminal of the airport and then inspected the departures and arrival sections and then moved towards the control tower.

Later on an Emirates Airlines' cargo plane arrived at the airport and Shaikh Mohammed spent some time inside the plane. He then moved towards the cargo terminal of the airport which perhaps concluded his tour at the airport.

Al Maktoum International , Dubai's second international air hub, is designed to be the world's largest airport when it is fully completed. It will have five runways, four terminal buildings and capacity for 160 million passengers and 12 million tonnes of cargo.

Phase one of the airport will feature one A380 capable runway, 64 remote stands, one cargo terminal with annual capacity for 250,000 tonnes of cargo and a passenger terminal building designed to accommodate five million passengers per year.

Dubai has joined an elite group of two-airport cities when first commercial cargo flight landed on Dubai World Central's Al Maktoum International Airport . Three air freight companies Rus Aviation, Skyline and Aerospace Consortium have begun operations from the new airport with 12 others due to follow in days to come.

Last week, test landing was done by Emirates' Boeing 777 freighter at Al Maktoum International , the centrepiece of the $33 billion Dubai World Central (DWC) project. The airport will open its runway for passenger traffic next year in March.
