Qatar: Lusail Expressway project tender soon
DOHA: The tender for the Lusail Expressway project, one of the Public Works Authority's (Ashghal) largest road and infrastructure project, is expected to be floated soon, Ashghal 's Manager of Roads and Drainage, Networks Design Department, said yesterday. The expressway will service all new areas of high development concentration north of Doha, starting from the Arch Roundabout all the way to Ritz- Carlton Hotel, the Towers Zone, New Diplomatic Area, Cultural Village, Lusail as well as The Pearl-Qatar.
"The Lusail Expressway tendering process will start in 40 to 60 days," Engineer Jamal Shareeda Al Kaabi said yesterday at MEED's Qatar Transport Projects 2010 conference.
Al Kaabi said the construction work for the project is expected to begin before the end of the budget year which for Ashghal starts in April, noting that the timeframe for the completion of the project is being fine-tuned but is anticipated to take some 36 months.
"There are a lot of activities going on and by the end of the year we should be awarding a lot of these contracts," said Al Kaabi.
He said these projects fall in the priority category because they will help ease congestions and also they will be connecting major highways.
Beside, a Project Management Consultancy (PMC) tender for 29 projects will be awarded within the next two weeks. The PMC will be acting on behalf of the client Ashghal to deliver these projects.
"Because the projects we want to deliver are massive, we need a helping hand to assist us," he said of the idea to bring in a PMC.
Another major project that Ashghal in cooperation with the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning is considering is what is to become one of the country's longest highways that would link major highways from Mesaieed all the way to Ras Laffan through Salwa highway.
