Memorandum of Understanding between UNDP & CSR LEBANON
(Beirut, 15 April 2010). The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), represented by Mrs. Marta Ruedas, UNDP's Resident Representative, signed today a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with CSR LEBANON LLC, represented by Mr. Khaled Kassar, Founder and CEO, at the premises of UNDP in Downtown.
The MoU aims to prepare a national report on the status and prospects of the corporate social responsibility in Lebanon. It seeks to define ways to develop the CSR in Lebanon and engage in the system of companies through long-term programs, while taking into account the interests of companies and the development, environmental and social needs of all citizens. In addition, the understanding plans to involve all sectors of the Lebanese community including public and private sectors, as well as the civil society, in order to develop an integrated national strategy in partnership with various parties.
Based on this note, a representative from UNDP will be a member of the Steering Committee of the National Programme for CSR. This committee will include a number of economic and social figures, representatives of the executive and legislative authorities in Lebanon and the civil society. UNDP and CSR Lebanon will cooperate to identify and implement many development projects that fall under the corporate social responsibility in various fields.
Please note that CSR LEBANON is an independent consulting firm aiming to raise awareness on Corporate Social Responsibility and to enhance CSR dialogue in Lebanon. Through its consultancy, research, communication strategies, events, and regional media platform, CSR LEBANON paves the way to a better understanding of the concept among the public and private sectors, striving towards a National CSR Strategy.
