Oman Air appoints Chief Officer Airport Operations
Oman Air has appointed Don Hunter as Chief Officer, Airport Operations. Don has spent the last 41 years in aviation, of which 19 years with Cathay Pacific Airways where his responsibilities included running both airport and ground handling subsidiaries in Hong Kong and also Cathay's commercial operation in South Africa. Don also spent 4 years with Virgin Atlantic, heading their Airport Services department, responsible for Virgin's 31 airports worldwide. Most recently, he held the position of Vice President with Dnata, both in Dubai and the Philippines.
In his current position with Oman Air , Don will be responsible for running the ground handling elements of Oman's airports, including check-in, passenger, baggage handling and Airport Services - Cargo for Oman Air and the 26 other airlines that operate scheduled services in Oman. He will also be responsible for planning and developing those elements into the new airports and facilities, currently under construction in Oman.
Don's entry into aviation was by way of the Royal Air Force, and his first visit to Oman was in 1970 whilst serving in the RAF.

Oman Air is the flag carrier of the Sultanate of Oman. Founded in 1993, the airline has since witnessed massive growth and has played a major role in making Muscat an important traffic hub in the Middle East, supporting the commercial, industrial and tourism sectors.
The airline currently operates direct international flights from Muscat to major Gulf destinations, such as Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Doha, Dubai, Jeddah, Riyadh and Kuwait. Oman Air commenced in September 2009 four weekly flights to Frankfurt and from October, three weekly flights to Munich as well as four weekly flights to Paris, Charles de Gaulle from Muscat. In Asia, Oman Air flies since October 2009 four times a week between Muscat and Maldives and flies four times a week to Colombo, Sri Lanka, since November 2009.
Oman Air 's fleet consists of Boeing 737-800 and Airbus A330s. At the end of 2009 the fleet strength stood at 15 B737-800s, two A330-200s and two A330-300s. During 2010 / 2011, 3 additional A330-300 will be delivered.
Also, Oman Air recently signed a contract with Embraer for the purchase of five Embraer 175 aircraft from the E-Jets family, with purchase rights for another five aircraft. The first delivery is scheduled for the first quarter of 2011.
For the future Oman Air has ordered 7 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, which are scheduled for delivery in 2014.
Oman Air unveiled its First Class Mini Suite in October 2009 which marks a further milestone in Oman Air 's ongoing drive for quality and comfort. During early 2009, Oman Air unveiled its new, lie-flat Business Class seat, which offers greater levels of comfort and amenity than many other airlines' first class products and will be fitted on all the new Airbus wide-body fleet.
