HCT Health Sciences Course Gets Australian Accreditation

Abu Dhabi, March 15, 2010: The UAE's future health care professionals will be able to gain invaluable overseas experience thanks to the accreditation of a Higher Colleges of Technology health sciences course.

The HCT 's Bachelor of Applied Science in Health Information Management has received full accreditation from the Health Information Management Association of Australia.

HCT 's Associate Dean of Health Sciences Pamela Cawley said the breakthrough would entitle graduates to pursue graduate work in Australia and several other countries which recognize this accreditation credential. Graduates of the program could apply for registration status in other countries if other eligibility requirements, such as immigration and residency, have been met.

"The accreditation agency particularly noted the good relationship with the health care practice agencies in the UAE; the quality of instruction and practice education and the resources available to the students at the Higher Colleges of Technology ," Ms Cawley said.

"The program, which is currently offered at the Abu Dhabi and Sharjah Women's Colleges, remains a sought after program by highly qualified Emirati students, who are able to obtain professional employment in the health care and quality sector throughout the nation. "

HCT Vice Chancellor Dr.Tayeb Kamali said that the depth, breadth and rigor of every HCT program aimed to be comparable, if not better, than similar internationally benchmarked programs. He added that all HCT programs were reviewed against key parameters such as academic rigor, student demand, graduation rates, market needs, and competitiveness with similar programs offered elsewhere.

"This accreditation is recognition, once again, of HCT 's dedication to the delivery of technical and professional programs of the highest quality to the students, so that they may have the skills to operate in an increasingly interconnected and complex technological world in their quest to take on leadership roles ahead," Dr. Kamali said.

Ms Cawley said this Bachelor program has been designed to provide students with entry-level competencies for health information managers and equip them with advanced skills in leadership; critical thinking; interpersonal and professional communication; and application of technology in the management of health information resources in diverse healthcare environments. Graduates will be able to perform complex tasks related to the management of health information and the systems used to collect, store, process, retrieve, analyze, disseminate and communicate that information. They will also be able to assess the uses of information and identify the availability of health data resources.
