Zulekha Hospital and Friends of Cancer Patients (FOCP) launch the first extensive Well Women Campaign

This campaign is organized by Zulekha Hospital and FOCP supported by the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, Sharjah Municipality , Sharjah Transport, Sahara centre, Mega Mall, Turrino advertising and SAHARA Communications. The campaign will target all UAE residents; the majority of activities will take place in Sharjah, and Dubai. This year, the campaign theme would be “Cut down the risk of Breast and Cervical Cancer”.

The campaign will comprise of awareness activities that are dedicated to educating women, men and families on breast and Cervical cancer prevention in terms of early detection and regular screenings.

Every year Zulekha Hospital celebrates 'Pink- Walk in ' internally; this year, Zulekha Hospital has invited all members of the community to take part in this initiative along with Friends of Cancer Patients. So far Family supreme council, Sharjah Municipality , Sharjah Transport, Mega Mall, Sahara centre, Turrino advertising and SAHARA Communications will be participating with representatives from the media.

“Well Women Campaign targets and encourages every woman, man and child in our society to learn more about the disease and how to detect it. Early detection of cervical and breast cancer is crucial for successful treatment, and people need to understand this in order to become more proactive in terms of taking regular screenings and self examinations seriously," said Ms. Ameera Bin Karam ,President Board of Trustees, Friends Of Cancer Patients.

The activities taking place will involve awareness promotion at Malls, Lectures at Sharjah Ladies club, Family supreme council and discounted screening for women at Zulekha Hospital, Dubai and Sharjah. A discounted screening facility is available at Zulekha Hospital, Dubai, Sharjah and Zulekha medical centers where by female doctors will consult advice and do necessary screening tests.

“Our thought behind this campaign is to create awareness and make women take charge of their own health. Once we achieve this we hope that they will make it a habit to always take precautionary measures against breast cancer and cervical cancer as well," said Dr.Zulekha Daud – Managing Director, Zulekha Healthcare group.

Based on the UAE health profile findings in www.focp-uae.org; Breast Cancer has been identified to be the one of the ten most common cancers in the UAE for national and non-national women.
