Syria and Spain sign agreements on capacity building and boosting academic ties between educational establishments in the two countries

Damascus - Syria and Spain signed on Wednesday an agreement on capacity building and management and organizing the process of admitting Syrian delegates in higher education programs, master and PhD, in a number of Spanish universities.

The agreement was signed by Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos, Syrian Minister of Higher Education Ghayath Barakat and Director of Universidad.es Foundation Monica Margret.

The agreement aims at encouraging both sides to enhance academic ties among higher education establishments in Syria and Spain.

Spanish Foreign Minister said the agreement is the beginning of a new chapter n the historical Syrian-Spanish bilateral relations, expressing satisfaction over signing the agreement which shows Spain's sought to enhance its bilateral relations with Syria in the field of education.

For his part, Dr. Barakat said the agreement reflects positively on the scientific cooperation between the two countries and enhances the joint desire to cooperate in the fields of science and technology.

Higher Education Minister pointed out that Syrian-Spanish cooperation in various fields of higher education contributes to the social and economic development in both countries.
