Qatargas supports 2nd GASNA competition
Doha, Qatar 02 September 2009: Qatargas today made a financial contribution to the Gas Processing Centre (GPC) of Qatar University in support of its 2nd GASNA competition, which is a national initiative aimed at increasing awareness about Qatar's abundant natural resources.The cheque hand-over ceremony was attended by Ghanim Al-Kuwari, Chief Operating Officer - Administration, Qatargas , Sheikh Ahmad -Al-Thani, Chief Operating Officer, Engineering & Venutres, Qatargas , Dr. Hassan Al Derham, Vice President for Research at Qatar University , Dr Fadwa Eljack, Director of the GPC and Osama Al Sayyid Omar, Head of Activities at GPC.
The contest, aptly titled Gasna which in Arabic means "Our Gas", is open to students of various age groups who are encouraged to take ownership of the country's future by working towards the development of innovative projects for gas and related product technologies.
The annual competition takes place at the beginning of each academic year. All schools in Qatar are encouraged to participate. There are three categories for the award: 1) Class Participation which is open to students of KG to 4th Grade, 2) Essays & Posters, which is open to students of 5th to 8th Grade and 3) Project Work which is open to students of 9th to12th Grade.
Qatargas
is actively involved in supporting a variety of educational initiatives in the country. These initiatives includefounding and continous support of the Chair of Engineering at
Qatar University
, ongoing support to the Ministry of Education's English language program and sponsorship of the adult literacy programme of the Doha Youth Center. In addition,
Qatargas
admits a large number of young university students for its summer internship programme in order to provide them with hands-on experience in various administrative, technical and engineering jobs.
