France grants 422,000 euros to Jordan for energy efficiency in lighting
AMMAN (JT) -- France granted 422,000 euros to Jordan on Sunday for energy efficiency in lighting. The grant agreement was signed by Suhair Al-Ali, minister of planning and international cooperation, Denys Gauer, French ambassador in Amman, and Gerard Larose, director of the French Agency for Development (AFD) office in Amman. Al-Ali said the project seeks to enhance energy on roads and in residential areas as well as increase energy saving programmes in the Kingdom, according to a ministry statement sent to The Jordan Times.The project will be implemented by the National Energy Research Centre, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the Amman Greater Municipality and the National Electric Power Company . Gauer reiterated his country's financial and technical support to development projects in Jordan. The Planning Ministry has signed a $100 million soft loan agreement with AFD to finance the government's participation in the Disi Water Conveyance Project. French aid volume to Jordan, including grants and soft loans, reached $160 million between 2000 and 2009.
