Plans afoot to nurture biodiversity at the treatment plant in the industrial area, reducing dust and pollution
Ajman, May 21, 2009: In a ceremony organized by the Horticulture Department of Ajman, the Ajman Sewerage Private Company Limited (ASPCL) celebrated today the World Biological Diversity Day in the presence of HH Sheikh Rashid Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi and its major shareholders by planting trees around the ponds at the company's Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) in Ajman's Industrial Area.
HH Sheikh Rashid Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of Ajman Municipality and Planning Department, inaugurated the celebrations by planting the first palm tree in the area, underscoring the company's commitment to ecological sustainability and the Emirate's vision for a green future. ASPCL has disclosed it intends to irrigate the trees with water treated at the plant in order to minimize consumption of ground water.
The ceremony was followed by an extraordinary meeting of the shareholders to discuss the future strategies of ASPCL. Chaired by HH Sheikh Rashid Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, the meeting expressed confidence that the Ajman Sewerage project would substantially contribute to the beautification and sustainable development of the Emirate of Ajman, especially thanks to the generous support from HH Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Ruler of Ajman.
The Ajman Sewerage Treatment Plant is producing effluents fit for restricted irrigation, which will greatly contribute to translating the Go Green vision of the Emirate into reality. Moreover, ASPCL is also eager to turn the desert area around the ponds in the plant into a green oasis in cooperation with the Horticulture Department at Ajman Municipality. Needless to say the area will be irrigated with treated water produced from the treatment plant.
HH Sheikh Rashid Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman, ASPCL, pointed out that the trees planted in the area were good examples of cultivating biodiversity. "ASPCL will always be in the forefront of the effort to fully achieve the vision of a Green Ajman. Since the plant is located in the Industrial Area, the trees will also help reduce dust and resultant pollution in the area, besides providing a green and natural fence around the ponds at the plant," he added.
The entire leadership of the company, including all the shareholders, attended the 'green' ceremony. They included Johan Beerlandt, CEO of BESIX Group, Philippe Quoilin, COO of Six Construct, Bechara Soussou, Executive Director of Six Construct, Ghassan Ejjeh, Director of Six Construct, Ian Barrett, Regional Director of Black & Veatch, Olivier Crasson, General Manager of ASPCL, Yousuf Al Ajmani, Executive Manager of ASPCL, Aisha Al Abdooli, Technical Service Manager of ASPCL, and Ibrahim Al Zaraouni, Head of Horticulture in Ajman Municipality.
