Batayneh, Sarayreh discuss shortage of cement, steel in the local market

AMMAN (Petra) - Public Works and Housing Minister Alaa Batayneh on Monday discussed with the Contractors Association President Dirar Sarayreh the shortage of cement and steel in the local market. During the meeting, Batayneh reiterated that the ministry is continuously following up to ensure the availability of sufficient quantities of construction materials.

Meanwhile, Jordan Lafarge Cement Factories Company yesterday attributed the increase in prices of cement to higher demand witnessed in the past three weeks. In a statement, the company said the delivery volume was 17,000 tonnes a day whereas the demand volume reached 18,500 a day. The company said it began taking measures to meet the requirements of the local market, predicting that the market will stabilise in the next three months.
