There is no cement and steel crisis in the local market - Hadidi

AMMAN - Industry and Trade Minister Amer Hadidi on Friday rejected as baseless reports of a cement and steel crisis in the local market.

He emphasised that the shortage in cement in the past few days was due to the increased demand on the product because the current production by cement factories is around 14,000 tonnes per day while the market needs around 16,000 tonnes.

Hadidi said this problem will end when another factory opens in September. In a related development, Lafarge - Jordan Cement increased cement prices by JD2.3 per tonne, from JD66.4 to JD68.7 before tax. In a press statement, the company attributed the decision to higher fuel prices.
