Qatar Telecom to create jobs for the disabled
DOHA : Qtel has announced that it would create jobs for the disabled. Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Saud Al Thani, Chairman, Qtel , said this at the ninth Gulf Disability Society Forum, which opened here yesterday.
"This is a huge initiative from the chairman himself," said Adel Al Mutawa, Executive Director, Group Communications, Qtel . "We have been supporting people with special needs and have contributed a lot in this sector. Qtel believes in the skill and strength of these people. We will offer a chance to all the applicants in Qatar."
The applicants should have the ability to communicate with the society and have some kind of technological knowledge. "We do have a workforce which falls in this category. A special committee has been formed in the HR department to check applications from disabled people. As long as they can they can add to the economy of the country, Qtel will support them and help in career development and give the needed training," he told The Peninsula.
The ictQatar, recently had announced to establish a Center for Assistive Technology that will be dedicated to helping people with disabilities through information and communications technologies.
The three-day Gulf Disability Society Forum has brought together experts, families and many disabled people from GCC countries. "We are discussing how to integrate technology to help people with disability and we will review all the technology being used now. In the GCC we have almost the same problems and the same services, strategy and planning. We are here trying to exchange experiences, research and look carefully at the shortcomings in the region."
"Technology is enhanced each moment and so we need to upgrade knowledge with what the market offers," said Dr Saif Al Hajari, Supervisor of Al Noor Institute.
