Zero Motorcycles Middle East brings clean technology to the 'dirty' sport of Off-Road Motorcycles.

Dubai, UAE, February 15, 2009:  Vesta Group, the leader of green transportation technologies in the Middle East and Africa, today announced the arrival of the Zero-X, the first commercially available no-compromise electric motorcycle that has race winning performance without all the noise and pollution of a regular gas motorcycle. Best of all...you never need to stop for gas!

The Zero X is not a gas motorcycle conversion and has been designed from the ground up to operate on 100% electric power. The chassis is made out of aircraft aluminum making it one of the lightest motorcycle frames on the planet at 18 pounds. The Zero X has hydraulic disc brakes and fully adjustable suspension with about 8 inches of travel and looks a bit like a big mountain bike, which isn't a coincidence considering the designer, Neil Saiki, holds a degree in aerospace engineering, has designed bicycles for Santa Cruz, Haro and Mountain Cycles. Even with more than 300 individual parts the total weight is only 140 pounds, which helps the Zero X weigh in at less than half the weight of a gas powered motorcycle.

"The writing's on the wall for gasoline-powered vehicles," said Steven Brown-Cestero, CEO of Vesta Group, "We may never eliminate them completely but for short trips, the ones that emit the most carbon emissions and pollution, the alternative is electric. Zero Motorcycles is at the forefront of this technology and the availability of clean, silent, and inexpensive to operate motorcycles now gives the consumer a choice they didn't have before."

Electric motors provide the power for these motorcycles and with instantaneous torque, a big plus in motocross riding, it'll catch you off guard. Snap the throttle too hard and you'll lift the front wheel. A low-speed mode limits the bike to about 50 Kph and is good for tooling around. Switch to high-speed mode and you get unfettered acceleration to about 90 Kph. The Zero X will hit 50 Kph in under two seconds and 90 in about twice that. Juice comes from a proprietary li-ion battery that weighs 40 pounds and provides riders the enjoyment of up to 2 hours of quality riding without seeing any impact on performance. At current UAE electric rates the operational cost per 1,000 kilometers is under 3 UAE Dirhams, making the Zero easy on the environment AND easy on your wallet. To complete the cycle and keep it green, the Zero X battery unit is 100% recyclable and landfill approved.

For those of you interested in a road legal version of the Zero X, don't despair, Zero Motorcycles hasn't forgotten about you. "Although the Zero-X is geared for the off-road rider, Zero Motorcycle hasn't ignored the street rider," said Brown-Cestero, "In April we will be launching the Zero-S, a Super-Moto style commuter bike with a larger battery, higher top speed at 110 Kph, and a longer range of greater than 95 KM."
