Electricity ministry calls on Italian companies to revamp power stations

BAGHDAD: The Iraqi minister of electricity Kareem Waheed on Wednesday called on Italian companies to participate in revamping power production units at the two stations of Daura and Baiji, according to a release issued by the ministry.

"Minister Wheed discussed with the Italian ambassador to Iraq methods of mutual cooperation between the ministry and Italian companies specialized in the power sector," said the release that was received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

"The minister called on Italian companies to participate in implementing the ministry's contracts with General Electric (U.S. Company) and Siemens (German firm), and to train Iraqi staff of engineers and technicians," it added.

The release stressed that the ministry considers Italian companies as giant specialized firms in the field of power generation.
