World's biggest petrochem project in Qatar

Qatar Petroleum (QP) will establish the world's biggest petrochemicals project worth $2 billion (Dh7.3bn) with the participation of its subsidiary Qatar Petrochemical Company (Qapco) , Chevron Philips Chemical Company and France's Atofina Chemicals.

Half of the project will be constructed in Ras Laffan Industrial City and the other part in Mesaieed Industrial Area.

Qapco 's General Manager Hamad Rashid Al Mohannadi said three other petrochemicals projects are being constructed in Qatar.

The cost of petrochemical projects in Qatar decreased considerably after it started to receive ethylene from Al Shama field.

Before that, the industry depended on gas associated with oil production, whose cost is higher, Hamad added.

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your article, it is of course very interesting.
However, valued at 2 billion US dollars, this project can not claim to be the world biggest petrochem project. I believe the most costly until now is Ras Tanura Petrochem (Aramco Dow joint venture), with a budget projection of over 20 billion US dollars.
