Abu Dhabi launches new code of practice to ensure industrial safety

04 November 2008
Abu Dhabi: Environment, health and safety standards in Abu Dhabi industrial sector will improve considerably, thanks to a new code of practice launched on Monday, said senior officials.

The regulatory framework -- 'Environment, Health and Safety' (EHS code) -- for the industrial sector of Abu Dhabi was launched at a ceremony held under the patronage of Shaikh Hamad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Higher Corporation for Specialised Economic Zones (ZonesCorp).

Engineer Jaber Hareb Al Khaili, the CEO of the ZonesCorp, announced the launch of EHS code at a function held at Abu Dhabi Industrial City (ICAD).

The code stipulates standard measures to prevent fire, explosions, work-related injuries, epidemics, toxic emissions and other factors that lead to the pollution of the environment.

Al Khaili said this code of practice is mandatory and must be applied by all industrial entities in Abu Dhabi. "ZonesCorp will coordinate with all relevant bodies concerned to ensure the implementation of EHS code. The EHS team in Zonescorp will develop special systems and inspection measures for the same," said Al Khaili.
