Jordan: Post offices to offer driver's licence services
AMMAN - Soon citizens will be able to obtain driver's licences at Jordan Post Company (JPC) offices, the JPC announced on Tuesday.JPC media consultant Zuhair Al Azzeh said they expect to finalise an agreement with the Public Security Department to implement the plan within the next two weeks.
"The new service will allow citizens to get their private driver's licences as well as renew their car registration from any of our JPC branches," Azzeh said.
The JPC jointly with the Civil Status and Passports Department (CSPD) and the Ministry of Public Sector Reform (MoPSR) began allowing Jordanians to renew their passports through the country's post offices in January as part of the Kingdom's e-government track.
Applications submitted before 10:00am are returned to the applicant the same day, while those submitted after that time will be delivered the following day, according to the scheme.
Azzeh told The Jordan Times that since its implementation, demand for the passport renewal service has increased, with thousands of citizens using the service each month.
JPC officials had earlier noted reluctance of some citizens to use the service fearing that their passports may be misplaced. Azzeh said earlier that the JPC was working closely with the UNDP, which is supporting the MoPSR to address loopholes and promote the service.
In addition to postal and financial services, the JPC collects bills on behalf of the Jordan Telecommunications Company, the Water Authority and the Electricity Distribution Company , and also provides National Aid Fund beneficiaries around the Kingdom with their monthly allowances in line with the list provided by the welfare agency.
