Sha'ban: al-Assad-Sarkozy Meeting Poses Turning Point in Syrian- French Relations
PARIS: Minister of Expatriates Dr. Buthaina Shaaban has said that the meeting between President Bashar al-Assad and French counterpart Nicolas Sarkozy in Paris tomorrow will be a turning point in the Syrian-French relations.In a statement Friday to Agence France Presse, the Minister added that these relations are developing positively and objectively in the framework of mutual respect in service of interests of the two countries' peoples.
Sha'ban indicated that we are optimistic regarding the future of relations between Damascus and Paris and hope to have positive repercussions on the whole region.
She stressed that Syria did not yield to pressure, even in the most difficult circumstances and confirmed that the Syrian policy is based on the defense of the national interests and realism reading to the situation in the Middle East and its concern over stability and security, pointing out that Syria is working for banishing the specter of war from the region.
