Diversity hallmark of Jordan relations, says minister
The diversity of Bahrain-Jordan relations is a key factor for their strength, according to the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr Nezar bin Sadiq Al Baharna.In an interview with the Jordanian News Agency, Dr Al Baharna said the ties were exemplary at the Arab and international levels.
The convergence of views of His Majesty the King, Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and King Abdullah II and their constant dialogue on various issues reflect the strength of the ties between the two kingdoms, Al Baharna said.
The recent visit of King Abdullah to Bahrain gave impetus to the relations, he said, adding that there was constant exchange of visits, even at non-official levels, to discuss Arab and international developments and support joint efforts in all areas.
Economically, the minister said, the openness in Jordan had encouraged Bahraini businessmen to invest there and benefit from the available opportunities. Bahraini investments in Jordan are characterised by their diversity and cover several sectors.
Last week, Bahraini Venture Capital Bank signed an agreement on joint investment to build a phosphates plant in Jordan. There are Bahraini investment projects in real estate and many other areas, the minister said. There are many Jordanian banks in Bahrain.
According to Dr Al Baharna, many opportunities are yet to be explored and for that purpose there should be more coordination between businessmen and official agencies in both countries.
The minister also highlighted cooperation between the two kingdoms in the education and health sectors.
The numbers of Bahraini students in Jordan continues to rise because of the good reputation of educational institutions there, he said.
Besides, Jordanians' friendly nature makes Bahraini students feel at home in Jordan, he said.
Similarly, Bahrain is keen to benefit from the outstanding health services in Jordan and there have been official visits for the purpose, he said.
About the status in Palestinian territories, Dr Al Baharna said Bahrain had a clear stance which was represented by the Arab League and all Arabs supported the Arab initiative.
Bahrain continues to hold talks with leaders and international agencies concerned in addition to diplomatic and political consultations, to resolve the Palestinian issue.
The minister also underlined the importance of Jordan's efforts, led by King Abdullah, at all levels to achieve stability in the region.
