Jordan: JPMC launches new project for advanced fertiliser products

AMMAN (Petra) - Jordan Phosphate Mines Company (JPMC) Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Walid Kurdi on Monday launched a new project for producing advanced fertiliser products.

The project, under the name of Jordan Abyad Fertilisers and Chemicals Company , comprises a group of plants to be set up at a cost of $90 million.

Kurdi, who chairs the board of the new company, said the project is a joint partnership among the JPMC , Bahrain's Venture Capital Bank (VCB) and other Jordanian associates.

The plants will be established in Al Wadi Al Abyad, an area close to the raw materials which will be used in product manufacturing.

In addition to benefiting from raw materials available in the Kingdom, the project will provide new technical and administrative employment opportunities for Jordanian citizens. The project is expected to provide around 370 jobs.

Expressing confidence in the new project, Abdul Latif Janahi, the chief executive officer (CEO) of the VCB , the major share holder in the project, said he was pleased and confident in the project's partners, its technology and the company's executive management.

Khaled Manasrah, the new company's CEO, described the project as unique in terms of its diversified products to be manufactured in one place.

The plant will produce 132,000 tones of sulphuric acid, 80,000 tonnes of potassium sulphate, 58,000 of calcium chloride and other products, he said.

During a meeting with the project's representatives this week, Prime Minister Nader Dahabi welcomed the project, stressing the government's efforts to provide the best conditions for investments in the Kingdom.

The establishment of the project coincides with the increasing demand in international markets for fertilisers.
