Aqaba Railway Corporation discusses cooperation, reviews FY 2007

AMMAN (Petra) - The Aqaba Railway Corporation (ARC) board on Saturday discussed ways to increase cooperation and coordination with the Jordan Phosphate Mining Company (JPMC) . During a meeting chaired by Transport Minister Alaa Batayneh, who is also the company's board chairman, the board also endorsed the company's balance sheet for 2007.

Last year, the ARC posted JD400,000 in net profit compared to JD156,000 in 2006. According to ARC Director General Hussein Kreishan, the corporation carried some 2.27 million tonnes of phosphate in 2007 at a cost of JD4.1 per tonne. Meanwhile, Batayneh also chaired a meeting of the board of the Jordan Maritime Authority (JMA), during which the board agreed on some amendments to the regulations governing the authority's work. The amendments seek to ensure that the authority's jurisdiction does not overlap with that of the Aqaba Ports Corporation.
