Communication Minister: Syrian-German Telecom Company Successful Example of partnership

Damascus - Minister of Communication and Technology Dr. Imad Sabouni said the project of the Syrian-German Telecommunication Company served as an example for Syria's possession of developed technology in the field of assembling and installing wireless equipment through the available gear from up-to-date world sources. Inspecting the Company on Monday in Dimas near Damascus, Dr. Sabouni highlighted the firm's achievements as represented by the presence of Syrian qualified cadres of high credibility in the field of production and sophisticated technology.

He stressed that the project represented a successful experiment of partnership between the public and private sectors as a form of attracting investment for development aims in Syria.

The Minister was briefed by Eng. Khled al-Homsi, the Company's Member of Board and representative of the German party, on a detailed explanation on the production inside the factory and the equipment in it.

Director General of the Syrian Telecommunication Establishment (STE) Eng. Nazem Bahsass said this experiment proved that the STE was able to make successful investment in technical terms with the cooperation of the private sector.

He added that Syria, through such partnership has become a country that produces some kinds of developed technology.The Company is a joint limited liability firm. Syria, represented by the STE, possesses 25 percent of its capital, while the German telecom possess 51 percent and SyriaTel 24 percent.
