Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Academic Medical Center launched at Dubai Healthcare City
Center will drive Dubai Strategic Vision 2015 ambitious mandate for the Healthcare Sector
Dubai: January 21, 2008 - Dubai Healthcare City , a member of Tatweer launched today the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Academic Medical Center with the integration of its entities, University Hospital, Harvard Medical School Dubai Center Institute for Postgraduate Education & Research, Al Maktoum Harvard Medical Library, and Dubai Harvard Foundation for Medical Research. This Academic Medical Center serves an important role in moving Dubai and the region successfully toward the quality and workforce development targets established in the strategic vision 2015 mandate for the healthcare sector.
The medical center is a valuable community asset that aims to improve the health status of families in Dubai and the region. It is a catalyst for healthcare advancements and a contributor to an expanded healthcare workforce. Its four components address the very important mission of advanced clinical care, education, and medical research.

Harvard Medical School Dubai Center (HMSDC), Institute for Postgraduate Education & Research provides an unprecedented link between the Gulf Region and Harvard Medical School. HMSDC is a catalyst for key education and research collaboration among healthcare professionals, scientists, educators, postgraduate medical residents, fellows and leading institutions across the globe. It offers exceptional educational programs for practicing physicians and is a center of learning for future physicians and healthcare professionals.
Al Maktoum Harvard Medical Library is designed as a state of the art knowledge center, programmed to contain over 20,000 medical titles and journals and will have online library resources to access Harvard Medical School Library in Boston.
To further expand the medical research mission, the Dubai Harvard Foundation for Medical Research (DHFMR) was created to help drive resurgence in scientific inquiry and discovery in the Middle East, and lead to innovations that address the region's most pressing health problems.
Serving the needs of the regional patients travelling to Dubai, DHCC is building the Jumeirah Creekside Park Hotel which will provide specific recovery amenities and services aimed at patients and their families visiting DHCC clinics and hospitals. The hotel will have a bridge link to the University Hospital and will have multiple floors with fully equipped nursing stations and rooms connected to the hospital's information system network.
Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC) was conceived with the objective of creating a regional center of excellence for medical services, medical education, and life science research and development in the Middle East. It is the world's first healthcare free zone and was created using a phased approach.
The first phase, which is 4.1 million square feet in size, features a medical cluster comprised of day clinics, diagnostic centers, rehabilitation centers, transplantation centers, hospitals, clinics and a sector for pharmaceutical and equipment suppliers.
