Abattoirs gear up for Eid Al Adha festivities
ABU DHABI -- The Abu Dhabi Municipality 's slaughterhouses have made all preparations to meet the Eid Al Adha requirements, and are issuing brochures to consumers to help them select healthy animals for the sacrifice.Khalifa Al Qubaisi, manager of the main slaughterhouse of Abu Dhabi Municipality in Mina, told Khaleej Times: "The public slaughterhouses have completed all arrangements for the slaughter of animals to be brought by residents in a smooth manner."
Al Qubaisi added, "We expect the people to follow the instructions of the municipality. We have arranged a facility to slaughter 300 animals in an hour."
He said, "We have increased the number of butchers to 150. They will work in two sections of the slaughterhouse.
"We have also arranged to deploy more veterinarians to examine the animals. The number of cleaners has also been increased to keep the place neat. We appeal to the members of the public to stick to the regulations of the municipality."
Random slaughtering
Random slaughtering of sacrificial animals, whether in houses, streets or public areas, pose a threat to public health, Al Qubaisi said. "This illegal practice can spread diseases," he pointed out.
He noted: "It also violates the aesthetic image of the city. Insects and stray animals roam around the blood stains, which lead to germs, viruses and parasites that transmit from animals to human beings and cause diseases like Tuberculosis, Malta Fever and other epidemics like the West Nile Fever and Rift Valley Fever."
He said the residents should be aware of the dangers posed by unauthorised slaughtering.
Talking about the import of animals, he said, "The measures adopted by the slaughterhouses in Abu Dhabi do not allow the entry of animals without a veterinary certificate regardless of where the animals come from."
