Journalists cook up a storm at LG Media Club challenge
Cooking competition sees keen contest between UAE-based media
Dubai, UAE - Journalists based in the UAE put aside their pens and notepads and instead donned chef hats and aprons to participate in the inaugural LG Media Club's "What's Cooking" challenge. Their task was to create culinary masterpieces in just one hour--using only the LG SolarDOM microwave oven.
The "What's Cooking" Challenge, hosted by global and regional digital leader LG Electronics , saw 8 two-member teams of English and Arabic media jousting for the top culinary honours. The competition rules stipulated that the scribes had a maximum of one hour to create an appetiser and a main course that could reasonably be served up in a restaurant.
The competition, aimed at providing hardworking media professionals with a little light-hearted fun, generated as much laughter as it did gourmet food. The winning dishes, fashioned and executed by the team Dar Assayad, comprised Hesham Farouk and Lamia Habib.
First runners-up were Raef Ghory and Ahmed Shahem from PC Magazine (Arabic) while second runners-up were Anita Shah and Siraj Gaima from ARY Digital TV, one of the premier television stations in the region. Participants also included Khaleej Times, Maktoob.com, Al Ittihad, Radio 4 FM and Shabab20.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Hamad Malik, Director Marketing,
LG Electronics
, Middle East and Africa, said, "Journalists in this region work very hard for long hours, and don't have the time or energy to slave over a hot stove when they get home, so this contest seemed like a natural fit. We were very impressed with all our competitors, who showed that they are as good with a deadline in the kitchen as in the office. We hope that there will be many more similar occasions to come."
The winners, first and second runners up were all give an LG SolarDom lightwave oven as prizes. "It was good to participate and indulge in a bit of creative fun with my friends in the media fraternity," said Hesham Farouk of Dar Assayad. "We entered the competition to be a part of the excitement but didn't know that we would eventually win it. I am grateful to LG for this great opportunity and look forward to many more exciting events in the future."
