HRH Prince Alwaleed bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Alsaud, Chairman of Kingdom Holding Company had donated $15,000 to the Muslin Women Lawyers for Human Rights, KARAMAH Organization's Annual Law and Leadership Summer Program which has contributed to the program's success.
In a thank you letter from Ms. Irfana Anwer, Esq, Executive Director of the Karama Organizaion to Prince Alwaleed, Ms. Anwar wrote that the funds allowed the organization to develop one of its effective Law and Leadership programs to date, allowing women from all over the world to benefit from the unique experience. The program was the most diverse in nature, rich in substance and content, and alive with ideas and debate. This generous donation by the Prince helped the organization to be able to raise the expectations of the Muslim and mainstream American community and was a continuation of Prince Alwaleed's efforts to bridge the gap between East and West for better tolerance and understanding and the empowerment of women.
The program was attended by women academics and women from diverse backgrounds and countries like Belgium, Afghanistan, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Iran and Pakistan. Prominent speakers like Hon. Ann McLaughlin Korologos, a former U.S. Secretary of Labor and Islamic scholars such as Dr. Azizah Y. al-Hibri and Dr. Syed Hossain Nasr also participated in the program tackling issues on Human Rights in Islam, law and women.
As an avid supporter of peace all over the world, Prince Alwaleed had also made other contributions; HRH donated $20 million to Georgetown University as a gift to support and expand its Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding (CMCU). HRH said, "We are determined to build a bridge between Islam and Christianity for tolerance that transcends cultural and geographical boundaries....." Furthermore, HRH donated $20 million to Harvard University to create the University-wide Islamic Studies Program. The new program will build on Harvard's strong commitment to the study of the religious traditions of the world. Prince Alwaleed also contributed a substantial $20 million to the Louvre museum to establish an Islamic arts section and donated $2.6 million to the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee to purchase an office building for their head quarters in Washigton DC.
