Sheikha Madiya Attends the opening of Sportex

Sportex Hosts MUSS kiosk, Body Building Competition, Martial Arts display & Mefit 06

28 November 2006: Sheikha Madiya bint Hasher Al Maktoum, the first emirate women to compete as an endurance rider graced the inauguration of Sportex, as H.E Abdul Rehman Al Aowais, Minister of Culture, Youth, and Community Development declared the event open 27 November, at the World Trade Centre, hall 4. International Expo Consults(IEC) organizers of the event said, "Sheikha Madiya is a role model and an inspiration for the youth of this country and her presence at the inauguration will help Sportex in its efforts to create a greater awareness for sports and healthy lifestyle, particularly among the youth."

Sheikha Madiya while expressing happiness over her endorsement of Sportex said, "It is heartening to see events like Sportex that capitalize on the sports industry to contribute positively to the development of sports and fitness scene in the country. The focus on sports, health and fitness in such international events goes a long way to create awareness with regards to the sports and fitness opportunities in this country and also gets international exposure for local talent. Also, it drives home the importance of sports and fitness for healthy living which is very important in present context as sedentary lifestyles have contributed to various health risks."

Sportex Hosts Body Building Competition

For all those people who love bulging biceps and triceps, Sportex -06 promises a lot of action. A body building competition under the patronage of Emirates Body Building and Weight Lifting Federation would see contestants vying for titles in two weight categories- under eighty and over 80 kg. Participants from across the Middle east would display their muscle flexing skills to clinch the body beautiful titles. The event is scheduled for 28 November. Top three finalists will be awarded medals.

Kick a Kick with Manchester United Soccer Schools

Manchester United Soccer School's kiosk that actually enables football enthusiasts to evaluate their kicking skills would be yet another highlight of the event. As part of the Manchester United Soccer Schools coaching philosophy that focuses on individual skills, MUSS would bring the innovative Speed Gun to Sportex. Speed Gun is a system which looks at improving a player's shooting technique. A player strikes the ball and directs it towards a panel. Each time the panel is hit, a mile per hour(mph) reading is given which indicates how fast the ball is traveling.

Martial Arts With the Youngest 5^th Dan

Sportex also brings together an array of martial arts as experts in various traditional arts display their skills and techniques. People can look forward to seeing karate and Ju Jitsu- the modern day version of an ancient Japanese martial art. Abdul Rehman Al Hadad - the 6^th Dan black belt along with the youngest 5^th Dan black belt holder would display their mastery over various art forms. Dan is the rank associated with skill and efficiency of the black belt. There are 10 Dans. Interestingly, no one except Sensei Nakayama achieved the 10^th rank- an honour bestowed on him posthumously.

Middle East Fitness Summit (Mefit-06): Feel Fit With the fittest

Organized in conjunction with Mefitpro (Middle East Fitness Professionals), the summit brings together high profile fitness experts including Mallcom Geluk, Kerry Hill, Steve Renata, Rob Richards and Susan Tolj. These experts would upgrade the knowledge and skills of around 500 fitness instructors in the region. They will also discuss various aspects of health and fitness and address the various lifestyle issues that are assuming pandemic proportions in the Middle East. The summit provides an exclusive opportunity to know about healthy living for kids. These informative sessions would also address the threatening lifestyle issues in children and the ways to deal with them.

Al Kamda launches Latest Fitness Gizmos
