Islamic Development Bank to fund rural electrification projects in Morocco

The Moroccan Government signed several loan agreements with the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) for Rural Electrification Projects in 13 different regions of the Kingdom, MAP news agency reported.

The agreements, worth USD 56.3 million, were signed during the two-day joint annual meetings of Arab finance institutions, which opened on Tuesday in Rabat.

The projects are aimed to improve life conditions in 998 villages of Morocco.

IDB also signed a USD 100 million Fund Line of Credit with Moroccan refinery SAMIR to import crude oil.

With this operation, SAMIR's IDB-funded projects have reached a total amount of USD 1 billion 300 million.

Since 1975, the Islamic Development Bank has funded several development projects in Morocco, with costs going over USD 2.5 billion.

Most projects pertain to foreign trade as well as technical and institutional support.
