Jordan: Ministry approves JCFC cement imports to meet market demand

AMMAN (Petra) -- The Ministry of Industry and Trade on Tuesday approved a decision allowing the Jordan Cement Factories Company (JCFC) to increase its imports of cement to help meet market demand after a technical failure in the company's production lines resulted in a supply shortage.

Following a meeting with the company's representatives and concerned officials, the ministry's secretary general, Muntasser Oqla, said the company is currently selling the cement at cost price and it is taking regulatory measures to deliver the cement to contractors and cement merchants without delay. He also said that the private sector can import cement from abroad, adding that the ministry will take legal measures against merchants stockpiling cement in anticipation of higher prices.
