Consortium of Regional, International Firms Wins $200 Million Deal in Qatar's Lusail Project

Beirut (APD) - A consortium of Kuwait-based Mushrif Trading and Contracting Company, Japan-based Marubeni and French Degremont Company won a $200 million BOT contract for the wastewater network in the $5 billion Lusail Development project in Qatar, the Kuwait-based al Rai al Aam daily reported Tuesday.

The contract, which also includes the designing of the wastewater collection system, will be signed in early March, according to Middle East Economic Digest.

The design and construction works on the network will be completed in 18 to 24 months while the operation of the project's wastewater facilities will be for 10 years.

Lusail Development is a luxury residential and mixed-use project with extensive recreational facilities including two golf courses and a lagoon with two marinas.

The project will cover over 35 square kilometers and can accommodate up to 200,000 people. Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company is the main developer of the project which will be completed in 2010.

Mushrif Trading and Contracting Company, established in 1968 and wholly owned by Al Wazzan family, is involved in heavy civil construction, electro-mechanical and sewage and treatment projects. The company has successfully executed a number of sewage treatment projects in Kuwait and Bahrain.

Marubeni is a Japanese trading and industrial conglomerate whose recent activities in the Middle East include being appointed main contractor for building a monorail system at the Palm Jumeirah in Dubai.

Degremont, the wastewater treatment plant division of French multinational Suez Environment, won its first Design, Build, Operate contract for a wastewater treatment facility in Qatar at the end of 2005, also in partnership with Marubeni. [TS]
