Algeria's Sonatrach and Sonelgaz Award a $226 Million Deal to Russia's Stroi Trans Gaz

Beirut (APD) - The Russian-based firm Stroi Trans Gaz won a $226 million deal from Algeria's Sonatrach oil firm and the government-owned company Sonelgaz to construct a 273 kilometer gas pipeline in Algeria, the Qatar-based AL-JAZEERA daily reported Tuesday.

The pipeline is a part of the natural gas pipeline project Medgaz that would link Algeria to France via Spain.

A deadline of 20 months has been set up to finish the project after the signing of the contract that was awarded to Stroi Trans Gaz at an international tender.

Other bidders for this project were Spain's Masa, Algeria's Cosider group and Willbross from UAE, the daily said.

The manager of Stroi in Algeria revealed that his company submitted an application to participate at another tender to build the northern section of Medgaz pipeline.

Stroi Trans Gaz had previously constructed a 403 kilometers pipeline for Sonatrach. [FC]
