The United States expressed concern about the escalation of violence in Iraq, stressing its support for the government of Prime Minister, Nuri al-Maliki in his battle against what it called as terrorism.
"U.S. Vice President, Joseph Biden confirmed Washington's support for the government of Nuri al-Maliki in the battle against terrorism," White House statement briefed by "Shafaq News" stated.
The statement added that was mentioned in a telephone call between Biden and al-Maliki.
Biden expressed "the continued support from the United States to Iraq in its battle against terrorism."
Biden also urged Maliki to communicate with all political formations in the country.
The statement talked about Biden's contact with the President of Kurdistan region, Massoud Barzani on Thursday praising the decision of the ministers and Kurdish MPs to stop their boycott of the central government that they started in March, and resuming work in Baghdad.
Biden also expressed to Iraqi parliament speaker, Osama al-Nujaifi on the concern about the security situation in Iraq, stressing "the need for the Iraqi leaders to abandon all violence and work to marginalize the extremists".
The demonstrations continued yesterday in several Iraqi cities as Friday prayers were performed under the slogans to protest the policies of Prime Minister, while the unified prayer was performed in the capital, Baghdad called by al-Maliki, at the time Washington expressed its concern about the increasing violence in the country.
It is noteworthy that Iraq- which U.S. forces departed at the end of 2011 - has witnessed since the beginning of 2013 bloody attacks, where the death toll exceeded 420 during current May.
