President of Argentina meets DP World Chairman to enhance cooperation
Dubai, 11th Feb. 2012 (WAM) -- The President of Argentina, Cristina Fern?ndez de Kirchner, has met Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Chairman, DP World , together with a high-level delegation, to discuss further enhancing mutual cooperation.
Present at the meeting were also UAE Ambassador to Argentina Mohammed Essa Al Qattam Al Zaabi and Argentina Minister of Tourism Mr. Enrique Meyer.Mr. Bin Sulayem is currently on a tour of DP World 's facilities in South America. He is accompanied by senior officials including Chief Executive Officer, Mohammed Sharaf, and Senior Vice President Government Relations Suhail Albanna.Global marine terminal operator DP World operates Terminales Rio de la Plata (TRP), the largest container terminal in Argentina, located in the heart of downtown Buenos Aires. The terminal handles container and general cargo, and cruise vessels.In March last year, DP World inaugurated TRP's Quinquela Martin, South America's largest and most modern cruise terminal, which is spread over 12,300 sq m, and has capacity to handle 600,000 passengers a year.Bin Sulayem said, "Throughout its history, Buenos Aires has grown and developed based on the strength of its port, the largest in South America. Today, TRP is the gateway for goods destined for and originating from this beautiful city and its huge hinterland, and it is also the centre in the region for the busy tourism trade."" DP World is privileged to contribute to the economic growth of Argentina and committed to continuing that contribution into the future. We thank the President, Her Excellency Cristina Fern?ndez de Kirchner, for her continued interest in and support of DP World ," he added.TRP's facility comprises three basins, providing up to five berths for vessel operations. It is the main terminal of the Port of Buenos Aires, handling 40% of all containers that pass through the port. It handles deep-sea vessels from Europe, Asia and North America, as well as feeders to both the East and West Coast of South America and barges upriver to Rosario.TRP has achieved ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standard certification.
