DEWA makes progress on Al Mamzar Substation
Dubai, 1st Feb. 2012 (WAM) -- Dubai Electricity and Water Authority ( DEWA ) is making progress on the 400/132 kilo Volts (kV) Al Mamzar Beach Substation. The total cost of the Substation is around Dhs470m and includes supply, installation, testing and commissioning. The project is intended to be completed before the end of this year.
DEWA is managing various development projects that are intended to extend and update the efficiency of its infrastructure to meet the targets laid out in the Dubai Strategic Plan to deliver the best possible services in terms of efficiency and reliability.The project also includes the laying of underground cables with a capacity of 400kV between Mushrif, Al Nahda and Al Mamzar. This operation is unprecedented, as it is the first time high voltage 400 kV cables have been connected through underground tunnels in the Emirate of Dubai. The cost of the cabling is approximately Dhs480m." DEWA is working on maximizing the efficiency of its transmission networks. Therefore, we are proceeding with implementing vital projects as part of DEWA 's strategy to improve our infrastructure, which accords with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, which aim to consolidate Dubai's leading position internationally as a world hub for finance, trade and tourism," said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA ." DEWA aims to maximize its production and operational capacity to enhance sustainable development. DEWA adopts the introduction of the latest techniques in its vital projects to increase production capacity," he added."The project supports power transmission operations in Deira and comprises the set-up of a main 400/132kV Substation with four transformers, which will operate with a total capacity of 2,020 Megavolt Amperes (MVA). DEWA is laying 400 kV cables with a total length of 19.5km: 11.5 km to connect Mushrif to Al Mamzar and 8km of cables to connect Al Nahda to Al Mamzar in order to enhance the efficiency of the power transmission grid in Deira. The Substation will be connected with other Substations at Warsan, Al Nahda and Mushrif," he said..
