DM issues new circular for well drilling companies
Dubai, Jan 23rd, 2012 (WAM) -- Dubai Municipality in a circular has requested all groundwater drilling companies to obtain environmental approvals for drilling groundwater wells.
This came as part of the protection of natural resources and implementing the provisions of Local Law No (15) of 2008 on the protection of ground water in the Emirate of Dubai.Dr. Abdussalam Mohammed Saleh , Head of Environmental Control Section said It has been noticed that some unauthorized companies have been depleting the groundwater, which is considered as one of the important natural resources, in an unjust and illegal way."The companies must be licensed by the Department of Economic Development and approved by Dubai Municipality . Application form is available on Municipality website: www.dm.gov.ae, or companies can visit Department of Environment - Environmental Control Section - Abu Hail. In case of violation, legal action will be taken against the offending companies," Abdussalam said." Dubai Municipality had launched a campaign to combat the unrestrained behaviours of drilling companies in the areas of farms and ranches that operate without obtaining the required approvals from relevant agencies," he added."As Municipality is the responsible government authority for the protection and control of natural resources, we call upon the citizens and owners of farms and ranches to cooperate," he said. The civic body has urged public to deal with the authorized drilling companies only and report any breach by drilling companies by calling the hotline 800 900.
