UAE signs Agreement on Multimodal Transport of Goods among Arab countries
Cairo, 31 May 2011 (WAM) -- The UAE today signed the Agreement on Multimodal Transport of Goods among Arab countries at the Arab League (AL) headquartersin the Egyptian capital, Cairo.
Mohammed bin Nakhera Al Dhahiri, UAE Ambassador to Cairo and PermanentRepresentative at the Arab League , who signed the agreement with Redwan bin Khadra, Director of AL's Legal Department, affirmed the UAE's commitment to supporting joint Arab action in all sectors, particularly economy.He said the agreement would contribute to facilitating inter-Arab transportand increasing inter-Arab trade exchange, thus advancing Arab economic integration forward.Ehab Makram, Minister Plenipotentiary, AL's Department of Legal Affairs.said the Arab Social and Economic Council passed a resolution on the agreement on 12 February 2009. He explained that every member state has the right to design the regulatory framework at national level to govern multi-modal transport businesses. Eight countries have signed the agreement : UAE, Syria, Jordan, Tunis, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Palestine and Yemen. It was ratified by Jordan and Yemen.He indicated that the agreement will be go into effect after thirty days of the date of submitting the ratification papers of three Arab countries according to article 46 of the agreement
