Mohammed bin Zayed meets with Vanderbilt University's Chancellor
Abu Dhabi, 11 April 2011 (WAM) - His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, received Mr. Nicholas Zeppos, Chancellor of Vanderbilt University at Emirates Palace and discussed with him potential cooperation in the field of higher education and scientific research.
The meeting discussed the importance of establishing cooperation between UAE universities and educational institutions and their international counterparts and drawing on their expertise in building qualified human resources better equipped to face future challenges and contribute to the overall development. H.H emphasized that the UAE, under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is keen on taking the educational system to a new level, adding that education is highly critical in building civilized societies. H.H. expressed his hope that the UAE citizens would continue to interact with, understand and appreciate all the different cultures in the world, be they Western or Eastern. H.H. stressed the importance of building a qualified cadre of Emirati teachers for transferring knowledge to future generations, and reaffirmed his strong support for local universities in order to raise them to international standards. On his part, Chancellor Nicholas Zeppos of Vanderbilt University commended the UAE’s continued efforts to improve and upgrade the educational environment in line with international educational institutions. Mr. Zeppos emphasized Vanderbilt University’s desire to establish special ties with UAE educational institutions and work together to improve academic cooperation for the benefit of both sides. The meeting was attended by H.E. Dr. Mugheer Al Khaili, Director General of Abu Dhabi Education Council, and H.E. Mohammed Mubarak Al Mazrouei, Undersecretary of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Court.
